A man has appeared in court charged with killing two people in a car crash in East Sussex.

Jodan Hunt is charged with causing the deaths by dangerous driving of Maria Smith, 48, from Eastbourne and Richard Lewis-Clements, 46, from Uckfield.

Ms Smith was a passenger in Mr Lewis-Clements's car which collided with a Seat Leon in Bolsover Road, Eastbourne, on Friday.

Mr Hunt, 23, is also charged with failing to stop after a collision.

He did not enter a plea when he appeared before magistrates in Brighton and was remanded in custody to appear at Guildford Crown Court on 1 September.
