Foundations for 116 turbines on a wind farm eight miles off the south coast have been completed on schedule.

The Rampion wind farm between Worthing and Peacehaven is due to be completed and fully operational in 2018.

Energy firm E.On said installation of the turbines would start in the spring and continue throughout the year.

E.On said the £1.3bn wind farm will provide enough electricity to supply 347,000 homes a year and create 65 jobs.

During the construction period it is estimated about 250 to 300 jobs will have been created.

Earlier this year, E.On received dozens of complaints from residents woken up by overnight construction work on the foundations.

E.On said warm weather and calm seas may have made the noise at the farm more noticeable.
