A man has died after being stabbed near a children's playground, Sussex Police said.

The victim, believed to be in his 60s, was attacked just outside the facility in Cherry Lane, Crawley, West Sussex, at about 10:30 GMT.

He was treated by paramedics at the scene but pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

A 22-year-old man from the town has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

Crawley Borough Council said the playground would be closed for the rest of the week, and its play service would reopen on Tuesday at Creasys Drive adventure playground.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward, and are in the process of trying to identify the victim.
