Six horses have been killed in a fire at a barn in East Sussex, police say.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was called to a fire at the Quimper Stud Farm in the Rodmell area of Lewes at just before 06:00 GMT on Saturday.

No-one was injured in the fire, but six horses died, a police spokeswoman said.

The cause of the fire is being treated as suspicious and two men, aged 40 and 24, have been arrested on suspicion of arson, she said.

They have both been released on conditional bail until 13 February while investigations continue, police said.

A spokeswoman for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said two crews were sent to the farm in The Street, Rodmell, where "a barn and stable were well alight".

Fire crews left the scene at about 07:15, she said.
