Covid-19: Brighton and Hove Pride to go ahead in August

Brighton and Hove Pride has announced this year's festival will take place in August following the cancellation of the event in 2020.

Mariah Carey had been due to headline last summer before the coronavirus pandemic forced its cancellation.

The planned 30th anniversary celebrations will now go ahead between 6 and 8 August, organisers have announced.

Tickets sold in 2020 will be valid for the 2021 festival, the organisers say.

A spokesman for Brighton and Hove Pride said: "Following the news of the UK government's roadmap for the lifting of social distancing rules on 21 June, we are thrilled to announce that the planned 30th anniversary celebrations for Brighton and Hove Pride will now go ahead.

"Over 20,000 early bird and first release tickets had already sold in 2020 and we'd like to thank everyone who rolled over their tickets to 2021. Existing ticket-holders don't need to do anything as your tickets are already valid."

The three-day event in 2020 had been due to run from 31 July to 2 August, with The Pussycat Dolls - who had recently reformed - due to appear as the headline act on the Sunday.

In 2019 Kylie Minogue headlined the festival, and in 2018 Britney Spears wowed a crowd of 57,000, with more than 250,000 people visiting the city.
