A man has been arrested after an elderly pedestrian died in an accident involving a HGV in Sussex, police say.

It happened on Hawkhurst Road, Flimwell, on the Kent/East Sussex border, after 17:30 GMT on Thursday.

A 75-year-old local man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sussex Police say a 57-year-old man from Rye, East Sussex, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He has since been released as enquiries continue.

A section of Hawkhurst Road was closed overnight into Friday, at its junction with the A21 for half a mile east, while investigators examined the scene.

Police continue to appeal for witnesses and anyone with any information or dashcam footage from around the time of the crash to come forward, quoting Operation Colchester.
