Construction has been completed on a new building for a hospice in West Sussex.

The £19.5m complex at St Catherine's Hospice in Pease Pottage is due to open its doors for staff and patients by early December.

It will replace the charity's site in Crawley which has been its home for the past 40 years.

A handover ceremony for the new 24-bed building is due to take place later on Thursday.

Each bedroom in the new complex has its own garden, en suite facilities and space for relatives to stay overnight.

The complex also has improved facilities for people being cared for in the community, with a gym, counselling rooms, areas for music and art therapies and a hair and beauty salon

Every year St Catherine's Hospice cares for about 2,100 people who are living with a life-limiting illness.

Giles Tomsett, St Catherine's Hospice chief executive, said: "For 40 years, we have proudly provided our outstanding care, but demand is high and we need to reach more people who need us.

"Our incredible new hospice will ensure that we can help more people, on our wards and out in the community, who are facing the end of their lives, both now and for generations to come."
