A man from Hove died with a head injury he suffered during a "disturbance", a coroner in Horsham has heard.

Bevan Rainbow, 26, of Davigdor Road, Hove, died in Preston Road, Brighton, on 23 December.

At the inquest opening, coroner Penelope Schofield, who described the death as "unnatural", scheduled a provisional inquest for 12 June.

Coroner's officer John Halloran said Mr Rainbow was treated by ambulance crews after a "disturbance".

He died "despite [the] best efforts by medics" after being seen unresponsive, he said.

Mr Rainbow's mother, Dawn Matthews, has set up a fundraising page to pay for his "unexpected" funeral, with any remaining money being donated to mental health charity Mind.
