Horley fire station, which closed last year, was advertised online for £2.5m

The sale of the site of a former fire station in West Sussex has been agreed.

Horley fire station, close to the Surrey border, closed in August, with the property having been declared surplus to requirements in 2021.

It was put on the open market by West Sussex County Council, which said a number of offers had been received.

The council has not revealed how much it will receive for the site, but it had been advertised online with a £2.5m price tag.

The property, which lies just over the Surrey border in West Sussex, had previously been used as West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service's residential training site.

Jeremy Hunt, West Sussex County Council's cabinet member for finance and property, agreed the sale to the preferred bidder, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

A report from Andrew Edwards, assistant director of property and assets, said: "The sale is a conditional sale which is subject to contract, legal due diligence and the grant of a satisfactory planning approval."
