Bognor: Officers use kayaks attending crash

Police officers attending a crash involving a drink-driver in flood water used kayaks to check the scene after they made an arrest.

James Doyle misjudged the road in North Bersted Street, Bognor Regis, and ended up crashing off the road.

Officers arrested the 57-year-old at the scene after rolling their trousers up and wading through the water.

They then borrowed kayaks from residents so they could "complete their checks on the car", Sussex Police said.

Doyle, of Fir Tree Way, Bognor, was given an eight-week sentence, suspended for 12 months, at Worthing Magistrates Court on Monday.

He was also disqualified from driving for 29 months and ordered to pay £239.
