A man accused of assisting illegal entry to the UK after migrants were found in a lorry aboard a ferry in East Sussex is to appear in court.

Anas Al Mustafa, of Heather Crescent, Swansea, was charged after the discovery at Newhaven ferry port on Friday.

Six people were taken to hospital after the incident, which sparked a major emergency response.

The 42-year-old will appear before Brighton Magistrates' Court on Monday.

He has been remanded in custody.

On Friday, police said two men had been arrested in connection with the incident, one on suspicion of people smuggling and the other on suspicion of entering the UK illegally.

Ambulances, police and Border Force were sent to the incident.

Ferry operator DFDS, which runs services between Newhaven and Dieppe in France, previously said that migrants were found on board the vessel.

The company said immediate medical attention was provided.
