A planning application has been made for a fan zone outside Brighton & Hove Albion's Amex stadium.

The two-storey building would replace the existing kiosks by the railway line at the end of the route to the ground from Falmer station.

The space will have food, drink and other shop space as well as toilets and storage facilities.

The planning application described the existing facilities around the stadium as "tired and worn".

National Highways has said a fan zone would encourage regular visitors to arrive or depart over a wider time on match days and cut the impact on the busy A27.

The council has received three letters of support and one objection to the application on its website, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Robert Hutton, from the University of Sussex, said: "The close proximity to campus makes it an ideal option for students seeking paid work outside of their studies.

"We already have students who work at the Amex and the fan zone will provide an additional employment opportunity, especially as it is most likely to be in operation at weekends and evenings."

The Premier League club has said it would make a £15,770 developer contribution for employment and training if the application is approved.

The application by The Community Stadium Ltd will go before Brighton & Hove City Council on 6 March.
