Teesside cancer centre work 'on schedule'

The £35m centre is being built at Middlesbrough's James Cook University Hospital

NHS managers have said building work to expand a cancer services centre on Teesside is "on schedule".

The £35m centre at James Cook University Hospital is predicted to become one of the best of its kind in Europe.

The site will include an outpatients clinic, a new CT scanner and a radiotherapy treatment centre.

South Tees NHS Foundation Trust said the centre was due to be completed in July 2012.

Jill Moulton, director of planning for the project, said: "It is still in the relatively early stages. The big difference will be that it's going to be very modern, very light and very spacious.

"It's going to be a real 21st Century building which will be a big improvement on some of the facilities we have now."
