Plans for a £31m revamp of Redcar's town centre are to go on show to residents and traders.

Redcar and Cleveland Council claims the proposals for an area between Kirkleatham Street and Coatham Road will create and safeguard 260 jobs.

The three-year project would see a new six-lane swimming pool, small business hub, community centre and dance hall.

Plans are going on show at the town's central library for three days from Thursday to Saturday.

Sheelagh Clarke, council spokesman for culture, leisure and tourism, said: "During consultations, residents told us they wanted a new swimming pool and improved leisure facilities.

"These plans will create a real asset for the town and provide residents and visitors with fantastic new facilities."

Economic development spokesman Mark Hannon added: "We are committed to delivering this exciting project and we are keen to move it forward as quickly as possible whilst providing the public with the opportunity to inform and develop the plans.

"This scheme will help create and safeguard 260 jobs and will see the town experience its biggest investment for over 100 years."

Controversial plans for a vertical pier for the town's seafront promenade have already been approved.
