A tribute to the Teesside-born sculptor who created the famous Rolls Royce "flying lady" mascot has been unveiled.

A plaque honouring Charles Robinson Sykes, who created the Spirit of Ecstasy bonnet ornament in 1909, has been installed in Brotton village.

The blue plaque has been placed on the outside of Mr Sykes' childhood home in Child Street.

It was unveiled by the Mayor of Redcar and Cleveland Ray Goddard and pupils from Freebrough Academy.

Councillor Sheelagh Clarke, the council's cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism, said: "We are proud that someone from our borough was responsible for designing such a beautiful emblem which is recognised worldwide.

"We are delighted to be able to unveil a permanent tribute to him where he lived in Brotton."
