Work on Middlesbrough £3.5m eco village gets under way

Work has begun on a £3.5m eco village that will create the first zero-carbon homes in Redcar and Cleveland.
Fifteen new homes and a further 11 terraced houses will be refurbished as part of the project in Queen Street, South Bank, Middlesbrough.
The houses, being built by Gentoo Homes, will be affordable Redcar and Cleveland Council said.
Some of the homes will boast triple-glazed windows, composting facilities and a green heating system.
It is believed the green technologies will save householders an average £1,000 a year, a spokesman for the council said.
The project has received £936,000 in funding from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), and is expected to be completed in March 2012.
