Electric car for residents of Middlesbrough estate
- Published
Residents of a Middlesbrough estate have been given an electric car for their communal use.
The vehicle will be available to members of a car club in Easterside.
Middlesbrough Council was awarded a £23,000 government grant for the scheme, believed to be the first of its kind in the UK.
The Peugeot iOn has a range of up to 120 miles on a single charge. Two charging points have been installed on the estate.
Councillor Nicky Walker, executive member for transport, said: "It's a terrific initiative and yet another example of Middlesbrough setting the pace in the technologies that will shape our future.
"I have no doubt that the people of Easterside and further afield will benefit from this initiative for many years to come."
