Two Cleveland Police chiefs in fraud probe bailed

Two Cleveland Police chiefs arrested on suspicion of fraud and corruption have been bailed.

Chief Constable Sean Price and his deputy Derek Bonnard were arrested on Wednesday by Warwickshire Police.

Former force solicitor Caroline Llewellyn was also bailed after she was arrested.

Mr Price and Mr Bonnard, who have been suspended from their jobs, were held at a North Yorkshire police station overnight and bailed on Thursday.

Warwickshire Police confirmed the three had been released until October.

In a statement, Cleveland Police Authority said on Wednesday: "The authority can confirm that two chief officers have been suspended from their posts with Cleveland Police while the investigations are being considered.

"It should be emphasised that suspension is a neutral act and it should not be inferred from the decision to suspend that the potential conduct matters have been proven in respect to the two chief officers concerned."
