Durham Tees Valley Airport has appointed a new airport director.

Steve Gill will take on the role from 1 September, owners Peel Airports announced.

He will be responsible for managing both Durham Tees Valley and Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield.

Mr Gill said he wanted to the build on the regional support already shown to the airport by residents and businesses.

It is hoped he will build on the recent rise in passenger numbers the airport has seen.

Peel Airports chief executive Craig Richmond said: "We know this has been a difficult time for the airport in recent times, but I have no doubt that under Steve's leadership and the great team he will be working with there, Durham Tees Valley Airport will be an airport that staff, customers and the region as whole can be proud of."

Mr Gill has nearly 30 years' experience in the aviation industry, the firm added.
