Arrest in Cleveland Police Authority corruption probe

Officers investigating allegations of corruption and misconduct involving people associated with Cleveland Police Authority have made a further arrest.

Warwickshire Police said a man was being questioned on suspicion of corrupt practice.

The BBC understands it is the ex-chairman of Cleveland Police Authority Dave McLuckie.

A Warwickshire Police spokesman said a number of premises on Teesside were also being searched.

Mr McLuckie resigned from the police authority in May. He denied any wrong-doing and said he did not know the nature of the allegations.

A Labour North spokesperson said: "Councillor David McLuckie was suspended from the Labour Party yesterday pending the outcome of the police investigation.

"This means that Councillor McLuckie is unable to hold any office within or represent the Labour Party or the Labour Group on Redcar and Cleveland Council during his suspension."

Mr McLuckie had been placed on administrative suspension by the Labour Party in May but the suspension was reinstated in August due to "a lack of clarity" over the timescale of the investigation into the police authority.

Cleveland Chief Constable Sean Price and his deputy Derek Bonnard were arrested in August on suspicion of misconduct and fraud. They deny any wrong-doing.

The pair, who remain on bail, have been suspended from the force.
