GlaxoSmithKline Barnard Castle site receives £15m

Drugs giant GlaxoSmithKline has announced a £15m investment in its Barnard Castle site

The County Durham plant missed out on being chosen as the destination for a new factory, which will instead be built in Ulverston, Cumbria.

The Barnard Castle drug manufacturing site, which employs more than 1,000 staff, applied to be considered for the investment but was not chosen.

Site director Andy Cockroft said: "Our future remains very bright."

"We are seeing growth across the site, continue to see high levels of investment and we already have a lot of new products destined to be manufactured here."
