Residents and local businesses have been invited to give their views on a proposed suspension bridge, aimed at attracting tourists to a Teesdale town.

The 870ft (265m) structure over the River Tees near Barnard Castle would be one of the longest of its kind in the UK, according to Durham County Council.

There are also plans for a viewing platform at the site, and the bridge could form part of a riverside walk.

A week-long consultation event starts in the town on Monday.

People can see details of the proposals and give their feedback at NeST, Teesdale Leisure Centre and the TCR Hub.

The council said this would allow time for the designers to consider and incorporate suggestions, prior to the submission of a planning application in November.
