Darlington Council considers art centre building sale
- Published
Darlington Council is considering selling the town's former art centre building and re-investing the proceeds in local arts projects.
The venue, in Vane Terrace, closed a year ago as part of the council's £11m budget cuts.
A proposed development involving a hotel and business outlets, which would have subsidised arts facilities, has fallen through due to lack of funding.
The council is holding a meeting to decide on the next move.
It said if the decision was made to put the site up for sale, there would be public consultation on how any proceeds should be used for the arts.
