More than £1m is to be spent upgrading passenger facilities at Eaglescliffe Station, near Stockton.

The project, part-funded by Network Rail and the Department for Transport, will include a new waiting area, platform benches and CCTV cameras.

The six-month scheme, due to start in November, will also see car park spaces rise from the current 30 to 84.

The number of passengers using the station has risen from 136,000 to 150,00 over the past year.
