Darlington woman 'critical' after being struck by car

A woman is in a critical condition in hospital after being hit by a car which also crashed into a house.

The woman, believed to be in her 40s, sustained serious head injuries and was taken to hospital. Durham Police said her condition is described as critical.

The silver Hyundai also hit several parked vehicles before it struck the pedestrian on Easson Road in Darlington at 17:00 BST on Monday.

A 25-year-old local man has been arrested.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and driving whilst disqualified.

A spokesman for Durham Police said the injured woman was taken to Middlesbrough's James Cook University Hospital.

The driver of the Hyundai is being questioned on suspicion of drinking and driving whilst disqualified.

The spokesman added: "We understand there may have been other witnesses, including people who assisted the victim at the scene."
