A man has been charged with manslaughter following a suspected shooting in East Cleveland.

Christopher Kay, 58, died in hospital after sustaining serious chest injuries in the incident on Friday, in Brotton Road, Carlin How.

Cleveland Police previously said his injuries were believed to have been caused by a firearm.

Jamie Hellings, 32, from Coronation Road, Loftus, is due to appear at Teesside Magistrates' Court on Monday.

Two men, aged 31 and 35, who were arrested have been released on bail pending further inquiries. A 32-year-old woman has been released with no further action.

Mr Kay, from Carlin How, near Saltburn, was taken to James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough, where he died.

In a statement his family paid tribute to him.

"We are currently working on coming to terms with the fact that a member of our family has been taken away from us," they said.

"Our children and grandchildren are now missing their father and grandfather, and someone must have information which will help the investigation and allow us to move forward."

The family said they wanted to thank members of the public who tried to help and the emergency services.

"We would ask that anyone who has any information, however small or trivial to contact the officers who are dealing with the investigation as soon as possible," they added.
