County Durham funnel cloud footage causes stir on social media

What looked like a tornado, but was actually a funnel cloud, has caused a stir in County Durham.

Dozens of people captured the sighting on Friday, with many on social media speculating the weather phenomenon was a tornado.

Funnel clouds form around localised areas of intensely low pressure, in the same way as tornadoes. But they are only classed as a tornado if they touch the ground.
