A man who set fire to a CCTV camera pole for a dare has been sentenced.

Paul Ellis, 37, used petrol and two wheelie bins to start the blaze in Hemlington, Middlesbrough, on 10 April, Teesside Crown Court heard.

Prosecutors said the fire on Cass House Road caused £1,000 worth of damage.

Ellis, from Hemlington, admitted arson and was jailed for a year, suspended for 18 months, along with a drug rehabilitation order and 60 hours of unpaid work.
