The police car is believed to have skidded on ice, police said.
A police officer has been suspended from driving after a police car crashed into a house.
An armed response vehicle hit the home on Elmfield Terrace, in Darlington at about 19:25 GMT on Sunday.
Durham Police said no one in the house was injured but an officer was taken to hospital as a precaution.
The officer was responding to a report of a man threatening people with a knife and it is believed the car skidded on ice, police said.
A Durham Police spokesperson said: "The driver of the vehicle - a police constable from the Roads and Armed Policing Unit - has been suspended from driving with immediate effect while the circumstances surrounding the collision are reviewed."
The car's blue lights where on at the time of the crash.
A suspect was arrested on suspicion of affray and vehicle interference but has since been released with no further action.
Police asked the public to avoid Elmfield Terrace and a structural engineer has been called to the scene to assess the damage.
