A woman has died after being struck by a Land Rover outside a supermarket.

Janet Johnson, 74, was hit near the Asda store on Middlesbrough's Ormesby Road shortly before 13:30 GMT on Friday, police said.

Mrs Johnson, of Priestfields, later died in hospital and a 39-year-old man was arrested and bailed.

In a tribute released by Cleveland Police, Mrs Johnson's family described her as a "lovely wife and an amazing mam, nana and great nana".

They added: "Janet had so much to look forward to in life and we can't put into words how much we will miss her."

Police have asked anyone who witnessed the incident or saw a black Land Rover in the area at the time, or anyone with dashcam footage, to get in touch.
