More than £1m is being cut from arts projects in the North East.

The Arts Council is cutting back after having its budget slashed by almost 30% in last week's government Spending Review.

Across the board it will make a 6.9% cut for the majority of arts organisations in 2011/12.

The North Music Trust is losing more than £250,000 while the Baltic will be more than £150,000 worse off.

In Alnwick, The Playhouse will lose nearly £3,000, Northern Stage will lose £94,000, and the Customs House in South Shields will have its funds cut by £9,000.
