Security advice after fuel thefts in Northumberland
- Published
Police in Northumberland are offering crime prevention advice to help residents stop fuel thieves.
It comes after an increase in the number of reports of thefts from tanks over the past few weeks.
Owners of fuel tanks can request advice over the telephone and officers will also carry out home visits to suggest security measures.
People, especially in rural areas, are also urged to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "Due to the sustained high price of fuel and heating oil we have started to see the number of fuel thefts rise.
"A few pounds spent on the security of your storage tank now could save you hundreds replacing stolen fuel."
