Inquiry into conduct at Kevan Thakrar trial

The conduct of a person who attended the trial of a triple murderer is being investigated by police.

Since the trial of Kevan Thakrar, 24, allegations about the note-taking of jurors' details have been reported to police.

It is alleged to have happened at a trial at Newcastle Crown Court in November when Thakrar was cleared of attempting to kill two prison guards.

Durham Police said a number of allegations were being investigated.

Thakrar, from Stevenage, Hertfordshire, is serving three life sentences for the 2007 murders of three men and attempted murder of two women in Bishop Stortford, Hertfordshire.

He was accused of attacking three prison officers with a broken chilli sauce bottle in March last year. Two of them have not been able to return to work.

He admitted lashing out at Frankland Prison but claimed self defence and was cleared of two counts of attempted murder and three of wounding with intent.

A Durham Police spokeswoman said: "We are investigating a number of allegations in relation to the trial."

Police have not revealed if the person is a man or woman, or if they were involved in the trial.
