A historic bridge across the River Tyne has reopened two weeks after being damaged in flash floods.

The Swing Bridge, which links Newcastle and Gateshead, had been closed to traffic since it was hit by floods on 5 August.

The crossing itself was unaffected, but an underground culvert collapsed under the road on the Gateshead side.

Northumbria Water said repairing the Victorian bridge, built in 1876, had been "challenging".
