Two people have been charged following an English Defence League (EDL) gathering and counter-demonstration.

Police said around 200 people were at the events in Millfield, Sunderland, on Saturday when disorder broke out.

The men, both aged 32, will appear before magistrates on 26 October charged with being drunk and disorderly.

Eight men held on suspicion of public order offences, and three on suspicion of affray, have since been bailed.
