The Duchess of Cambridge's visit will take in Gateshead, Newcastle and Stockton

A visit by the Duke of Cambridge to the north-east of England has been cancelled because of a funeral.

Prince William will pay his respects to Olga Powell, who died on 25 September and was nanny to him and Prince Harry throughout much of their childhood.

The Duchess of Cambridge will visit Gateshead, Newcastle and Stockton as planned on Wednesday.

She will meet community groups and charity staff during her stay in the region.

In Newcastle the duchess will visit the Civic Centre and Elswick Park before a trip to Keyfund in Gateshead.

Catherine will also meet those involved with a charity where she is patron when she visits the CRI Stockton Recovery Service. It offers a support service for people over 18 who are using drugs.

The scheme is a partner of Action on Addiction.
