Gay couples urged to consider fostering or adoption

Same sex couples are being urged to consider fostering or adoption by Durham County Council.
It said it wanted to clear up "myths" that mean people "rule themselves out".
Social workers and same sex parents ran an information session for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Fostering and Adoption Week at the Gala Theatre.
The council said its fostering and adoption team would provide training, support and information.
"One commonly held belief is that same sex couples cannot foster or adopt," adoption team manager Jessica Cowan said.
"What is more important than anything else is your ability to understand and care for a child and provide a stable family life."
