Blyth lifeboat crews rescue dog swimming out to sea

The dog was safely reunited with its owner on the shore

A dog has been rescued by lifeboat crews after swimming out to sea off the coast of Blyth.

Blyth Lifeboat Station received a call at about 16:45 BST on Thursday reporting a dog had swam out to sea just to the south of the harbour.

A fishing vessel shadowed the animal which had begun to make its way back to shore when the lifeboat was launched.

The dog was reunited with its owner on the beach.

Paul Raine, from the RNLI, said: "It's good to see that someone knew what to do and called the coastguard on 999 for help instead of attempting to go after the animal themselves.

"I would advise any animal owners who find themselves in a similar situation to do the same."
