Northumberland sheep thefts a 'concern' say police

Hundreds of sheep have been reported missing from two Northumberland farms, police have said.

About 270 have been stolen from Elsdon and 30 from Bellingham.

In both cases the exact timing is not known but is believed to be some time after 3 March in the first case and 1 May in the second.

Thefts of sheep are uncommon in the area but "a concern due to the high value and effect they have on farming businesses", Sgt Ian Forster said.

"Anyone who has information is asked to get in touch with police," he said.

"I'd also urge anyone who sees suspicious vehicles or people in their area to contact police straight away."

The farms cover large areas of land which are difficult for vehicles to navigate, the force said.
