Vinnie Jones has been on the beat with Northumbria Police for a TV series.

The Premier League footballer-turned-Hollywood actor spent a week with road safety enforcement officers as they responded to incidents.

Their experiences were captured on camera for the series, which will be shown on the digital TV channel Spike.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "We certainly got some second glances when officers turned up with Vinnie Jones alongside them."

Jones, a former Wimbledon player, who went on to star in hit films including "Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels", was with a camera crew embedded with the officers as they took part in Operation Dragoon.

The operation is designed to target dangerous drivers, and also involvers officers going into local schools and raising awareness in the importance of road safety.

Jones said: "I've really enjoyed working with such an impressive unit."

Ch Insp John Heckels, head of the operation, said: "It's been great having Vinnie and the cameras with the Operation Dragoon team.

"As a force, we are really keen to show local people the work that goes on behind the scenes and promote the excellent work that our officers are doing.

"Hopefully, the show will reflect this and show our communities a different side to policing."
