Plans for a 20,000-panel solar farm in Peterlee are being recommended for approval when they go before a council.

The farm at Mill Hill would be expected to produce 5,000 megawatt hours a year or enough power for 1,390 homes, the application to Durham County Council said, external.

The solar farm could save at least 59,540 tonnes of C02 during its 30-year life.

The council's planning committee will consider the application on 5 January, external.
