Newcastle United commentator Mick Lowes is to step down after 25 years of covering the Magpies.
The BBC Newcastle broadcaster said it had been "an honour, joy and privilege" to commentate on "one of the world's great football clubs".
Originally from Nottingham, Mick joined BBC Newcastle from Capital Radio in 1991 and moved to Metro radio in 1994 before returning to the BBC in 2002.
His final commentary will take place on 26 November against Blackburn Rovers.
'Legend in broadcasting'
The Sony Award-winning broadcaster said: "A quarter of a century working with the likes of Benitez, Dalglish, Given, Hall, Keegan, Robson, Shearer and Speed, as well as co-commentators John Anderson and Mick Martin, who gets to do that? The luckiest guy in the world that's who. And he'll never forget it!"
BBC Newcastle Editor Doug Morris added: "I've worked with Mick on and off for 25 years, and you'd be lucky to find anyone more respected for his commentary and knowledge of the game anywhere in radio - he's simply a legend in broadcasting.
"Mick has been great to work with and his integrity has always shone through. He will be a genuine loss for the team here but more importantly for the audience.
"I have huge respect for Mick and his decision, which I know was a very hard one for him to make."
Wendy Taylor, NUFC head of media, said the news "was greeted with sadness today, but also with huge respect".
"Mick has always been a constant, authoritative and passionate voice and one instantly recognisable on the North East air waves and to supporters worldwide via NUFCTV."
Before hanging up his headphones his final commentary will take place at St James' Park on 26 November when Newcastle host Blackburn Rovers.
