Joe Scott, 19, was killed when a car crashed into a bus stop in West Denton

A 19-year-old man who was killed when a car crashed into a bus stop has been named.

Joe Scott, of Blakelaw, Newcastle, died on Sunday afternoon while waiting on West Denton Way, and two women were also injured, one seriously.

Three men were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

A 21-year-old man was released under investigation, and two other men, aged 21 and 24, face no further action, Northumbria Police said.

Mr Scott's family is being supported by specialist family liaison officers.

The woman with serious injuries remains in hospital and the other victim has been treated and discharged.

An investigation into the crash, which involved a grey BMW, continues and police are appealing for anyone with information or dashcam footage to make contact.

Sgt Craig Bartle, of Northumbria Police's motor patrols department, said: "Our thoughts remain firmly with Joe's loved ones at what must be an extremely difficult time for them.

"We will offer them all of the support they need as they come to terms with their loss and ask that their privacy is respected."
