An eight-year-old boy has said having a stoma is a "superpower" after finishing a month-long running challenge.

Jack, from Shotton Colliery, ran one mile (1.6km) each day in October "in all sorts of weather" to raise more than £3,000 for charity, his mum said.

He had a colostomy bag fitted early last year after developing problems with his large intestine.

Jack said he wanted to encourage others living with a stoma bag "not to be scared to talk to about disabilities".

"If you have a stoma, you can do anything like others can, like sports or run a mile like I've done," he explained.

"Even if you have a disability, you shouldn't be treated differently."

Jack completed 31 different runs held across Shotton Colliery.

His mum, Zoe, said her son had even kept the challenge going through Storm Babet.

"We're all so proud of what Jack's done," she said.

"The one thing that Jack wanted to do was raise awareness of living with a stoma and he's certainly done that this month."
