Northumbria Police said the vehicles involved were "considerably damaged"
A man has been taken hospital with "serious injuries" after a three-car crash in Northumberland.
Emergency services were called to the scene on the A697 near Wooler at about 11:45 GMT on Friday.
Police said the 24-year-old, who was one of the drivers, is in a stable condition. No one else suffered serious injuries.
The road had to be closed for several hours to allow for the recovery of the vehicles.
Northumbria PC Andy Mcnally said: "This is a very serious collision which has resulted in a man being taken to hospital, and we wish him a full recovery.
"All vehicles were considerably damaged... we are working hard to establish exactly what has happened."
He asked anyone with information or dash cam footage to contact the force.
