Coast Road barrier corrosion speed limit to remain

The speed limit is to reduce the risk of a collision with the safety barrier
The temporary 50mph speed limit on a 70mph section of the A1058 Coast Road will "remain for the time being" following barrier inspections.
The limit was introduced last month, from the edge of Newcastle to just before the Silverlink junction, when a central reservation safety barrier showed evidence of corrosion.
About 4km (2.5 miles) of safety barrier has been inspected.
Engineers say some barriers now need to be replaced.
North Tyneside Council say the survey report from the inspection has not yet been finalised, external, but when they receive the report "a works programme will be developed and implemented".

The speed limit was introduced last month, external as a safety precaution to reduce the risk of a crash and the severity of any impact with a safety barrier.
The Coast Road is a major commuter route connecting Jesmond to Tynemouth.
