Bishop Auckland scanner to reduce waiting times

Patients in County Durham are to benefit from a new hospital scanner which health chiefs hope will reduce waiting times.
County Durham and Darlington Foundation Trust has invested £400,000 in the CT scanner which takes seconds to diagnose problems and produces high quality images.
Based at Bishop Auckland Hospital, the scanner will diagnose bleeding on the brain, aneurysms and tumours as well as abscesses throughout the body.
Currently the hospital scans 26 patients a day and is hoping to increase this to 30 a day.
Dr Peter Orr, a radiologist for the trust, said: "The new scanner produces images in much finer detail, which makes diagnosis much more certain and more accurate.
"It brings us up to date with the latest technology and enables us to now do a much wider range of examinations, for example a CT of the urinary tract which we couldn't do previously."
