The mother of a teenage boy who died when he was struck by a car has paid tribute to her "happy-go-lucky" son.
Brandon Nugent, of St Joseph's Close, Gilesgate, Durham, was with a group of friends crossing the A690 on Monday evening.
His mother Madeline Walker said her son had been doing well at school and would be missed by everyone.
Durham Police said the vehicle involved was an Audi A3 driven by a local man. No-one else was injured.
Ms Walker said: "Brandon was a happy-go-lucky boy.
"He loved football and was a keen fan of Manchester United, was always playing on his Xbox and was into his music, with Slipknot being his favourite band.
"He was very much loved by everyone in the family and everyone he met. He will be missed so much."
The road was closed for more than five hours while crash investigators studied the scene. Police have appealed for any witnesses to come forward.
