Street lighting switch off for three Wiltshire villages

  • Published

More than 100 street lights in three Wiltshire villages are to be switched off during the early hours in an attempt to save power.

The equipment needed to do this will be installed over the next three months in Figheldean, Bulford and Durrington.

The lights will be switched off at midnight and turned back on at 0530.

A Wiltshire Council spokesman said he expected the £5,000 cost to be recouped over a four-year period through lower energy bills.

"As well as saving energy it will also reduce the county's carbon footprint.

"Final engineering tests will now be undertaken on site and any change advertised before the installation is undertaken," the council spokesman said.
