Wiltshire Council spokesman said a 90-day consultation would start on 10 November

Managers at Wiltshire Council are being notified whether they are at risk of losing their jobs.

The Conservative-run council has said it aims to close 240 managerial posts by next April as part of a £122m programme of cuts.

About 480 were due to attend meetings on Monday as the council seeks volunteers for redundancy.

A council spokesman said a 90-day consultation on the cuts would start on 10 November.

The authority said hundreds more jobs could go by 2014.

Jane Scott, leader of Wiltshire Council, said the authority was offering an enhanced redundancy package for managers who volunteered.

She said it meant the council could work faster at restructuring.

A council spokesman said several meetings had taken place with trade unions.

John Drake, South West chair of the Trades Union Congress, said support would be given to members whose jobs were at risk.

The council's chief executive and trade unions are due to meet with managers facing redundancy on 10 November.
